Committee Members

Amanda Benckhuysen

Amanda was ordained in the CRC in 1998.  She has served in a variety of ministry settings including youth and college ministry.  She did her seminary internship at a new church development in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Amanda is married to Martin Benckhuysen who is also an ordained pastor in the CRC.  Since 2008, Amanda has been teaching Old Testament at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa.

Joel Boot

Joel has been ordained as a pastor in the CRC since 1972.  He has served congregations in Le Mars, Iowa; Dearborn, Michigan; Calvin CRC, Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Ridgewood, Jenison, Michigan.  He was appointed to the position of Interim Executive Director of the CRCNA effective June 6, 2011.

Mary-Lee Bouma

Mary-Lee has served in pastoral ministry, church planting, and campus ministry in Chicago, Michigan, and British Columbia. Ordained in 1997, she currently works to develop a network of simple churches in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia.

Peter Choi

Peter entered ordained ministry in the CRC in 2005. Prior to ordination he served in youth and college ministries in California and in Michigan. In 2001 he began serving at Covenant Community Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which in 2005 merged with Lighthouse CRC to become Cornerstone CRC. He is currently studying American religious history at Notre Dame University.

Roy Heerema

Roy has been a financial advisor for the Northwestern Financial Network since 1973. He has served as an elder in his home church, the Cedar Hills CRC of Wyckoff, New Jersey. He has also served on the NJ-NY Bethany Christian services Board, and he is the chairman of the Northeast Community Transformation Committee. He has a passion for social justice and for promoting Christian stewardship.

Melvin Jackson

Melvin was ordained in the CRC in 2001. He is currently serving a church plant, called Grace Unlimited CRC, in Los Angeles, CA. He has a great passion for evangelism and inner-city youth. Melvin began work on the Candidacy Committee in 2009.

Ken Koeman

Ken is a retired pastor who lives in Lyndon, Washington. He served four CRC congregations over a span of 44 years. Ken has been a regional pastor and a classically appointed mentor for newly ordained pastors. He also serves on the classical ministry leadership team of Classis Pacific Northwest.

David Koll

David has been ordained as a pastor in the CRC since 1981, serving congregations in Flushing, Michigan, and in Anaheim, California. He has a particular passion for multi-ethnic participation in the CRC, and in developing pastoral leaders. He began work as the Director of Candidacy in January of 2008.

Jul Medenblik

Jul is a former attorney who entered Calvin Theological Seminary as a second career person. Upon graduation, he served for 16 years as the founding pastor of New Life Christian Reformed Church in New Lenox, Illinois. He also served for four years as the Church Planting and Development Point Team Leader for Christian Reformed Home Missions. On August 1, 2011, Jul took up the position of President of Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Kristin Pikaart

Kristin is a hospital and hospice chaplain in Gallup, New Mexico. She received her M.Div in 2000, and was ordained in the CRC as a ministry associate in 2006. She has a great love for pastoral care and counseling in multi-ethnic communities. With her husband she enjoys caring for her two young children and is an avid backpacker and hiker.

Gilbert Varela

Gilbert has been ordained as a pastor in the CRC since 1995. He has served congregations in Sun Valley, CA, Holland, MI, and Grand Rapids, MI. He has also served on various boards of multi-ethnic ministries. He has a passion for diversity and multiculturalism in the church today.

Al Wolters

Al recently retired as professor of theology at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, ON. He has a background in philosophy and is currently writing a commentary on the book of Zechariah.
