Cambodia
Country Profile
CRWRC has been working in Cambodia since July 24, 1996. Cambodia is a developing tropical country with 80% of its people living in the rural countryside. Average per capita income is about $2,000 per year, however, there is increasing disparity between urban and rural people. 57% of the labour force is engaged in agriculture on small holdings. Agriculture is very dependent on the monsoon rains and on irrigation from the Mekong River. In recent years the timing of the spring and fall monsoons has become more sporadic and unpredictable making the main rain fed rice growing more risky due to prolonged drought periods. As well erosion and flooding are becoming increasingly problematic and pose threats to the farming community.
CRWRC is responding to poverty in Cambodia by working in partnership with the Norwegian Mission Alliance (NMA), Tear Fund UK, local churches, small locally registered Non-government organizations and two local networks: the Christian Learning for Development Association and the Cambodia NGO’s Capacity building Network.
