Letter from the CRWRC-DRS Director

 December 18, 2009

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

A little over a month ago Nancy and I were blessed with the birth of a healthy new grandson – little Elijah.  Holding that new born baby for the first time reminded me again of just how vulnerable the Son of God became when He entered our world.  He “did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Philippians 2:6,7  God gave the ultimate gift of love when He sent His Son, Jesus, as a baby over 2,000 years ago!  That event is still the most important event in all of history.  Because of that gift there’s hope for all of humankind, and for each of us.

On Sunday, March 7, 2010 our US Christian Reformed churches are scheduled to take an offering for CRWRC – Disaster Response Services.  As we did this past year, we would like to make it a DRS Sunday – green shirts and all!  You can get involved by helping with the planning – encourage your church to schedule an offering, help us arrange for a speaker, and plan on wearing your green shirt!  Our Canadian churches are not included in the March 7 offering because of a scheduling conflict, but we ask that our Canadian volunteers also get your church involved and plan a DRS Sunday sometime in 2010!

Also, we have faithful volunteers who attend churches of other denominations including Reformed, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and others.  Please consider talking to your church leadership about this great ministry that you’re involved in, and how they can also get involved by taking a special offering for CRWRC.  We can help to arrange a speaker, if you would like.  Give me a call!

Check out our website at www.greenshirts.org where you will be able to obtain materials for DRS Sunday, including bulletin covers, inserts, posters, and a new DVD.

DRS plans for 2010 include a continuation of our work in and around New Orleans, helping families who still need to recover from Hurricane Katrina.  Our funding will allow for a little more than one additional year of involvement there.  Also, we will finish up our work in Lake Charles and Port Arthur, and will open a new site in Galveston, TX, helping families who suffered loss from Hurricane Ike of 2008.  We will also continue our work in Cedar Rapids, and have made plans to open a new site in the Munster/Gary, Indiana area.  Even though this past hurricane season was a “no-show,” disasters have continued.  In particular, flooding has occurred across North America in record waves.  We have much to do.  Thanks for your involvement!  Without your help the work could not be done!

In His Service,

Bill Adams, Director
CRWRC-Disaster Response Services
