Pakistan Flooding 2010

CRWRC is increasing its response to ongoing flooding in Pakistan to $2.3 million as intense rain and widespread floods continue to deluge the densely populated country from north to south. CRWRC has already distributed 8,000 mosquito nets, 1,000 hygiene kits, and shelter tents to survivors displaced by the flood water.

Pakistani officials estimated this week that at least 15 million people have been affected by the deluge so far, and more than 650,000 houses have been significantly damaged or destroyed. CRWRC’s response in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province is expanding to meet the desperate needs of displaced families and their hosts with a two-month food supply and additional shelter tents, kitchen sets, and hygiene items.

CRWRC is appealing for funding to meet the growing need for emergency survival supplies for 8,000 families in the Nowshera and Charsadda Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. A gift of as little as US$5 can provide a mosquito net; US$20 supplies a hygiene kit; US$30 covers the cost of a kitchen set, and US$160 provides a shelter tent for families left homeless by this ongoing disaster.

CRWRC has significant history in Pakistan responding with immediate aid in previous disasters in 2005, 2007, and 2009. The agency’s partner, the Interfaith League Against Poverty (I-LAP), is based in Islamabad.

In 2009, CRWRC and I-LAP conducted a relief program to provide emergency food aid to internally displaced families fleeing violence between military forces and insurgents in Malakand, Swat, and what is now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. I-LAP provided food supplies and non-food relief items to displaced persons and their host families in that response.
