Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

DAY OF SERVICE

Be the hands and feet of Jesus are single-day events in which churches and individuals serve the Lord by getting involved in their communities.

The 9/11 DAY OF SERVICE 911day.org was the first DAY OF SERVICE event for the Christian Reformed Church. On the 10th anniversary of 9/11, people across the United States and Canada remembered by joining together in a national Day of Service.  CRC churches responded to be part of this movement by being the hands and feet of Jesus to our communities through acts of kindness, compassion and hospitality. Individuals and small groups were encouraged to join as well.

Since 9/11 fell on a Sunday this year, the DAY OF SERVICE took place on Saturday 9/10 or Monday, 9/12 .  SerivceLink will soon be planning another Day of Service and encourage the churches to participate. Check back soon for details.

Here is what some churches planned:
- a 'First Responders' breakfast for local police officers, firefighters and their families
- placing 'Thank you' cards at local events that people can sign
- making 500 lunches to hand out to the homeless and hungry in their neigborhood
- creating an 'art' station in which mourners can use to bring healing to themselves and their neighbors
- a special church service to which local 'First Responders' are invited

How do I get included in the churches or as a small group or individual participant?
