CRWRC Honduras Director Assistant


Opportunity Title:  Director Assistant Volunteer

Location:  Tegucigalpa, Honduras

CRCNA Ministry:  CRWRC

CRCNA Partners:  Diaconia Nacional: CRWRC works in partnership with Diaconia Nacional since 1986.  Diaconia works in the areas of environment, micro-enterprise, diaconal training, preventative health, agriculture, and community credit unions.  Diaconia has worked well with integrating many US and Canadian volunteers into their work over the last 20 years. 

Number of Positions: 1 per year

Expected Length of Service: 52 Weeks (Can only be extended with approval from the field.)

Dates Opportunity is Available:
Opportunity dates are dependent upon staff, partner and volunteer availability. Applications are due 4 - 6 months in advance of placement.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Learn different administrative and field aspects of community development work
  2. Assist national organization to direct day-to-day program activities
  3. Assist local community facilitator for nine months in current community development work
  4. Participate and contribute in Diaconia Nacional’s management meetings, staff training, community planning sessions, and staff devotionals
  5. Assist staff in devotionals, trainings, community planning sessions, etc
  6. Complete weekly or monthly reports regarding work.

Qualifications: 

  1. Mature Christian committed to serving and following Christ, who is a Canadian or US resident
  2. Recent college graduate with Bachelor’s Degree in Business, International Development or other related major
  3. Fluent in conversational Spanish; fluency in reading and translating written Spanish, a plus
  4. Experience serving in the church and/or community;
  5. Respectful of and ability to thrive in cross cultural settings or another culture
  6. Demonstrated interest in learning about Christian community development;
  7. Commitment to CRWRC development values;
  8. Self-starter and able to work without constant supervision during busy periods
  9. Able and willing to work in a team setting
  10. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, and Excel is required.  Knowledge in website management and production, a plus
  11. Ability to invite others into his/her ministry through prayer and financial support
  12. Ability to work effectively while dealing with the ambiguity of adjusting to another culture
  13. Able to nurture own faith in a sometimes isolated environment
  14. Good oral communication and writing skills
  15. Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor.

Requirements of the Volunteer:

  1. Complete and submit a volunteer application form, resume/CV and Volunteer Profile
  2. Provide a current (within 2 years) criminal background check; including a vulnerable sector search
  3. Raise prayer and financial support by inviting indivduals, businesses and/or churches to give to this opportunity
  4. Attend an orientation seassion in the Home Office (when possible, or by phone)
  5. Adhere to 'CRCNA Standards of Conduct', 'CRCNA Crisis Management Policy' and any other applicable policies and/or procedures. 

Financial Requirements of Volunteer: please note that costs are estimated and listed in US funds

Estimation of $13,995 US for RT Airfare to Honduras, Transfers, In-country travel, Insurance, Personal Travel Costs, Living Allowance, Immunizations, Visa Costs, Cell Phone, and Other Personal Expenses.

Additional Costs - depending on each individual

  • Passport (must be valid at least 6 months beyond date of return flight)
  • Communication (i.e. cell phone, internet)
  • Tourist trips - if so desired
