
Opportunity Title: Volunteer Teacher

Expected Length of Service: 12 months
Dates Opportunity is Available: Open; dependent upon partner organization’s schedule.
Purpose: To assist in the teaching needs at Rev. Murupus Academies and to provide an opportunity for the volunteer to experience cross-cultural learning. CRWM desires to help RMA in providing academic excellence with a Christian foundation for the benefit of students, their families, and the larger Kenyan society.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Teach math, chemistry, physics, and/or biology
2. Promote and encourage a Reformed view of education
3. Be willing to share your Christian faith with others
4. Build relationships with the community by staying open and flexible to the culture around you
5. Live and worship with the community during the project
6. Complete recommended reading, and orientation before departure to the country
7. Provide CRWM East Africa and the community with an evaluation of the project
8. Share your story or final report with your church, supporters, ServiceLink and CRWM
Qualifications:
1. Mature Christian committed to serving Jesus Christ
2. Teaching Degree (elementary or Secondary) and teaching experience are required
3. Commitment to Reformed theology and a strong understanding of how worldview affects teaching and learning
4. Moderate level of physical exertion required (may need to walk several miles; must be able to function in a hot and humid climate)
5. Willingness to submit to and learn from the school’s leadership
6. Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor

Support Services Provided: ServiceLink and CRWM agree to provided
• Orientation materials as well as ongoing logistics and support to meet the needs of the volunteers, local community, and CRWM’s country staff
• consultation and/or visits by missionary staff when available
Requirements of the Volunteer:
1. Complete and submit a CRWM volunteer application form;
2. Provide a current (within 2 years) background check; including a vulnerable sector search;
3. Raise prayer and financial support by inviting individuals, businesses and /or churches to give to this opportunity;
4. Attend an orientation session in Grand Rapids, MI or Burlington, ON or participate in alternate orientation options (online learning, etc.);
5. Adhere to ‘CRCNA Standards of Conduct’, ‘CRCNA Crisis Management Policy’ and any other applicable policies and/or procedures.
Financial Obligations of the Volunteer:
Please note that costs are estimated and listed in US funds
For a twelve-month term:
• Travel to and from country - $2,500
• Food - $2000
• Lodging – $1000 (for utilities; housing provided by RMA)
• In country transportation - $2000
• Ministry Expenses - $2500
• Vaccinations – Approx $300 (varies based on individual needs)
• Medical (required) and Travel Insurance – approx $250 (varies)
• Administrative fee - $150 for first three months; $50/month for subsequent months ($600 for twelve months)
TOTAL Estimated funds needed $11,150
Additional Costs – depending on each individual
• Passport (must be valid for at least 6 months beyond date of return)
• Communication (i.e. cell phone, internet)
• Tourist trip - if so desired
