Location:  Bamako Christian Academy (BCA) in Bamako, Mali – offers Kindergarten through Grade 12

Organization involved:  Mali Educational Association (including Avant, WorldVenture, SIL/Wycliffe, MELM, Navigators, MAF and others)

Number of Positions: several

Expected Length of Service:  A preferred commitment of one 10 month school year (a minimum half year~ August - January), and a time of reading, orientation, and fundraising before departure.

Dates Opportunity Is Available:  ASAAP

Purpose: English speaking classroom teacher for primarily missionary kids from various overseas locations.

Specific Responsibilities: 

  1. Planning, preparation and teaching of all classroom curriculum.
  2. Collaborate and work alongside BCA staff
  3. Ensure and maintain quality of classes taught
  4. Prepare reports on the progress of students attending the classes
  5. Build relationships with the community by staying open and flexible to the culture around you;
  6. Write bi-monthly reports to individual supporters and churches
  7. Complete recommended reading, and orientation before departure to the country
  8. Provide BCA and the community with an evaluation at the end of the project.     

Qualifications:                                                               

  1. Mature Christian committed to serving Jesus Christ, who is a Canadian or US resident
  2. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  3. Current teaching certificate in home country (preferred)
  4. Minimum one year teaching experience (preferred)
  5. French language skills an asset
  6. Compassionate, respectful of other cultures and emotionally stable
  7. Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision
  8. Reporting and organizational skills
  9. Flexible, adaptable, and able to view life with a sense of humor.

Support Services Provided: The ServiceLink offices agree to provide the following:ongoing logistical and orientation support to meet the needs of the volunteer, local community, and  BCA staff.

  • Reading and orientation materials, consultation and/or visits by missionary staff
  • Mentorship and supervision on the field will take place with BCA staff.
  • An opportunity to help volunteers link their individual/church’s mission and vision to work being done.

Requirements of the Volunteer:

  1. Complete and submit a volunteer application form, resume/CV and Volunteer Profile
  2. Provide a current (within 2 years) criminal background check; including a vulnerable sector search
  3. Raise prayer and financial support by inviting individuals, businesses and/or churches to give to this opportunity
  4. Attend an orientation session.

Financial Obligations of the Volunteer:  Please note that costs are estimated and listed in US funds for a 10-month school term.
