Indian Family Centre Teams


Location
:  Winnipeg, Manitoba

Type of Groups:  Youth, intergenerational or adult

Size:  10-15 individuals per team is optimal but can take up to 25

Number of Teams:  3 teams per summer, but can take up to three more teams throughout the year.

Commitment:  4 days to 1 week on site, plus 10 - 15 hours of reading, orientation and preparation before departure.

Dates Opportunity Is Available:  Year round, depending on IFC availability.

Purpose: Indian Family Centre seeks to provide opportunities for people to learn from a cross cultural perspective. There is a focus on Aboriginal tradition and teachings, and how they relate to Christianity. Matters of poverty and justice are also explored.

Project Information:  People will participate in neighbourhood beautification, gardening projects, renovations (should the group have the required expertise). 

Specific Responsibilities:
1) Complete recommended reading and participate in orientation meetings prior to departure;
2) Work alongside staff and volunteers from Indian Family Centre as they reach out to the people in their community;
3) Build relationships with the community by staying open and flexible to the culture around you;
4) Live and worship with the community during the project;
5) Provide Indian Family Centre and ServiceLink with an evaluation of the project;
6) Share your experience with your church and/or supporters;
7) Raise awareness with your home church and community of the ministry taking place at ‘name of placement’.

Qualifications:
1) A willingness to work under the leadership of the Church and community leaders;
2) Be compassionate, respectful of other cultures, and emotionally stable;
3) Be flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor.

Costs:  will vary with each team depending on where team travels from.
• Project Fee: We ask that when possible you make a donation of approximately $100 per person, with a minimum of $1000.00
• Meals & Lodging: Teams will be housed at the centre for no cost, but must provide  their own meals.
• Transportation to site and return
• Out of state/province or out of country medical and travel insurance
• Passport if travelling from outside of Canada
• Spending money

Support Services Provided: ServiceLink agrees to provide:
• orientation materials as well as logistics and support to meet the needs of volunteers;
