
Opportunity Title: Volunteer Visiting Lecturer
Location: Mbale, Uganda
Number of Positions: 1 or more
CRCNA Ministry Involved: Christian Reformed World Missions
Time Commitment: 2 to 4 weeks
Dates Opportunity is Available: any time (subject to school and field staff schedules)
Purpose:
- To teach a course in Old Testament (Pentateuch), Missiology, or Pastoral Ministries at the Pentecostal Theological College (PTC), which is the theological school of our partner, the Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Uganda (PAGU).
- To strengthen the PAGU in leadership and capacity development by teaching courses and helping to meet the staffing need at PTC.
Specific Responsibilities:
1) Teach a course in Old Testament (Pentateuch), Missiology, or Pastoral Ministries.
2) Build relationships with the community by staying open and flexible to the culture around you.
3) Live and worship with the community during the project.
4) Complete recommended reading and orientation before departure to the country.
5) Report back to congregations and to individual supporters about the work of CRWM and our partners.
Qualifications:
• Mature Christian committed to Christ, who is a Canadian or US resident
• M.Div. or equivalent theological training
• Pastoral and/or teaching experience
• Ability to work in a hot and humid climate and sometimes under difficult conditions
• Willing to follow the community's leadership in the project
• Compassionate and respectful of other cultures
• Proactive and able to work with minimal supervision in ambiguous situations
• Flexible, adaptable and able to view life with a sense of humor
Expectations of the volunteer:
1) Complete and submit a volunteer application form and resume/CV.
2) Pass a background check.
3) Raise prayer and financial support by inviting churches and individuals to give to this opportunity.
4) Attend a pre-trip orientation session in either Grand Rapids, MI or Burlington, ON.
5) Adhere to CRCNA Standards of Conduct
Budget: please note that costs are estimated and listed in US funds
Approximately $5000 US for RT transportation to and from the field, transportation on the field, housing and utilities, ministry and miscellaneous expenses.
